Frequently asked questions by shoulder and elbow patients
How do I make an appointment?

I treat private patients and choose and book NHS patients at Thornbury Hospital. You could either request an appointment using the online form found in the home page or call/text 07544825790 and leave a message with your details.

Do I always need a referral letter?

No, you do not need a referral letter if you are paying for your treatment. However, most insurance companies require a referral letter from your GP.

How long will my appointment last for?

Each appointment usually lasts for 15-30 minutes depending on the complexity of your problem.

If I require surgery, how will this be organised?

After your initial consultation, assessment and investigation, if surgery is deemed necessary, you will be scheduled a date for your operation, based on your convenience and availability.

All surgical procedures have a code that insurers and hospitals use and you should inform your insurance company regarding your planned surgery.

Are you recognised by my insurance company?

I am recognised by all the major insurance companies as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

How long will I stay in hospital?

Most keyhole surgeries are done as day case procedures. Joint replacements and other major procedures require 2-3 days stay in hospital.

Do I always need a private medical insurance to be seen?

No. Self-pay options are available.
